Description
Odyssey Vortex HB
The Odyssey Vortex HB is a premium Alnico?V-magnet guitar pickup that delivers a big, dynamic voice with strong midrange presence and exceptional note clarity. With 7,100 turns of 42?AWG enamel wire, this pickup measures around 9.2?K?—providing increased output and a robust tonal footprint that excels in both rhythm and lead applications.
Construction & Materials
Hand-wound in the USA, the Vortex HB employs tight coil windings around precision-cut Alnico?V pole pieces for maximum harmonics and dynamic range. Nickel-plated steel baseplates and covers ensure durability, shielding against extraneous noise while preserving a bright, open character.
Tonal Character
Comparable to DiMarzio’s DP107, the Vortex HB offers a full-bodied, musical tone with a rich harmonic spectrum. On clean settings, chords ring with a warm, rounded tone and articulate highs. Under distortion, the pickup’s increased output provides a smooth, singing sustain without sacrificing note separation. Its strong midrange thrust places guitar parts forward in any mix.
Dynamic Response
The Alnico?V magnet ensures lively, touch-sensitive response. Light picking yields crystalline clarity, while aggressive attack unlocks a saturated, vocal-like sustain. Players can control their tone via the guitar’s volume knob—rolling back yields cleaner headroom, while digging in engages the pickup’s natural compression.
Versatility & Applications
Ideal for rock, blues, and fusion styles, the Vortex HB shines in both bridge and neck positions. In the bridge, it delivers punchy, thick rhythms; in the neck, it offers warm, singing leads. The balanced output makes it suitable for tube amps, solid-state rigs, and high-gain modeling heads alike.
Installation & Compatibility
Designed for easy drop-in replacement, the Vortex HB fits all standard humbucker cavities. Each unit is pre-wax potted to minimize microphonics and includes long lead wires and mounting hardware for a hassle-free install.
