ABOUT THE OWNER
How Did I Get Into Music?

My musical journey began in 1987 with a second-hand guitar at the age of six. From the moment I picked it up, I was hooked. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad, jamming out on his candy apple red American Fender Stratocaster to legends like George Thorogood, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Dire Straits, The Stray Cats, and Iron Maiden. I grew up with those iconic sounds echoing through our home, and when I visited my dad on weekends, he’d take me to gigs on Austin’s famed 6th Street. Those experiences shaped me, and ever since, I’ve needed music around me constantly—silence drives me crazy. In a world without music, even if it were a constant loop of “Oops, I Did It Again,” I’d take it over no music at all.

As the years passed, I dove deeper into music. I’ve been in numerous bands, written hundreds of songs across genres like blues, country, hard rock, metal, alternative, and more. Every guitar I’ve owned has been customized—tweaked, upgraded, or altered—to match the sound I was chasing or the style I was playing. I even found myself working on my bandmates' guitars, fine-tuning them to help create the perfect sound.

For years, I was deeply embedded in Austin's music scene. I booked shows for local bands, worked as a professional photographer, played in various groups, and even sat in as a session musician for guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, lap steel, and more—if someone handed me an instrument, I’d figure out how to play it. At one point, I even played the triangle on stage, just to one-up my dad, who once played the kazoo for a well-known country artist. (He later got me back by playing the mouth harp for another musician!)

Music isn’t just something I do—it’s who I am. It’s been woven into every part of my life, and through Mythic Guitar Company, I’m excited to share that passion with every musician who picks up one of our instruments.

Why Do You Recommend Boutique Guitars Over Store-Bought?

One word: Quality.

What Was Your First Guitar?

My first guitar was a candy apple red, early 1980s Epiphone Strat copy—a guitar with a truly unique story. Epiphone didn’t make Strat copies for long, so it was already an oddball, but what made it special were the custom-made humbuckers salvaged from another guitar with a set neck.

Here’s the story: My dad bought a custom guitar from a soldier returning from Korea, where it had been hand-crafted by a luthier, pickups and all. The tone was incredible—clean, bright, and hot. Sadly, during a gig, the neck snapped. Not long after, a friend’s house caught fire, and the only thing that survived in one room was the Epiphone. The intense heat treated the wood, and though the electronics were fried, my dad salvaged the humbuckers and rebuilt the guitar for me.

The result? A one-of-a-kind guitar that screams like a banshee and sings like an angel. From that moment, I understood that guitars could be more than just off-the-shelf instruments—they could be customized to achieve perfection. That’s been my approach ever since.
