Odyssey Icon SH5 HB
The Odyssey Icon SH5 HB is engineered for ultra-high output and cutting clarity. Inspired by the Seymour Duncan SH-5 ‘Invader’, this guitar pickup features 8,000 turns of 42?AWG enamel wire wrapped around powerful ceramic magnets, achieving around 10.0?K? impedance for a fierce, modern tone.
Construction & Materials
Hand-wound in the USA, each SH5 HB employs precise coil tension to ensure consistent output. The ceramic magnets provide a tight, linear field that emphasizes attack and brightness. Nickel-plated steel covers and baseplates offer durability and effective hum rejection, ensuring the pickup remains noise-free even at high gain.
Tonal Character
Like the original Invader, the SH5 HB delivers an aggressive, snarling sound with pronounced midrange and high-end bite. On clean settings, it offers an unexpectedly clear tone with a hint of brightness. When driven, it produces a thick, heavy distortion that maintains clarity and articulation, ideal for modern metal and hard rock riffs.
Dynamic Response
The high output and ceramic magnet combination yield a responsive, punchy feel. Light picking produces surprisingly articulate tones, while heavy attack spikes the output for intense sustain. The SH5 HB tracks pitch well under heavy gain, making fast lead work and palm-muted chugs distinctly audible.
Versatility & Applications
Optimized for the bridge position, the SH5 HB excels in high-gain applications. It pairs well with aggressive tube heads, high-gain pedals, and noise gates. While primarily suited for metal genres, rolling back the volume can yield cutting clean tones when the guitar’s volume is rolled back.
Installation & Compatibility
This drop-in humbucker fits into standard humbucker cavities. It comes pre-wax potted for reduced microphonics, with long lead wires and mounting screws included.
Made in USA
With extremely high output and biting clarity, this pickup produces a fierce, modern tone ideal for heavy, saturated riffs.Compare To:
