Odyssey Icon SH4 HB
The Odyssey Icon SH4 HB is crafted to deliver high-output performance with pronounced sustain and an aggressive tonal edge. Modeled after the Seymour Duncan SH-4 ‘JB’ pickup, this guitar pickup features 7,500 turns of 42?AWG enamel wire around Alnico?V magnets, yielding an impedance of about 9.7?K? for a bold, modern voice.
Construction & Materials
Each SH4 HB is meticulously hand-wound in the USA, with controlled coil tension for uniform results. The Alnico?V magnets provide strong magnetic pull, accentuating harmonic richness and sustain. Nickel-plated brass covers and baseplates offer robust shielding and a slightly tempered top-end bite.
Tonal Character
Similar to the SH-4 JB, the Icon SH4 HB delivers a powerful, gritty tone with clear articulation. On clean tones, it offers a balanced response with a hint of brightness. Under drive, it snarls with a thick, singing sustain and rich harmonic overtones—perfect for soaring leads and heavy rhythm work.
Dynamic Response
The higher winding count and Alnico?V magnets ensure a dynamic playing experience. Light attack yields a sweet, bell-like quality, while heavier picking ignites a compressed, sustaining overdrive. The SH4 HB tracks well across volume sweeps, making it versatile for cleans to full-on crunch.
Versatility & Applications
Ideal for players seeking a go-to pickup for rock and metal, the SH4 HB excels in both bridge and neck positions. In the bridge, it delivers punchy, thick chords and lead lines that cut through any mix. In the neck, it offers smooth, singing sustain suited for blues or hard-rock solos.
Installation & Compatibility
The SH4 HB is a drop-in replacement for any standard humbucker cavity. It arrives wax-potted to combat microphonics, with ample lead wire length and mounting hardware for straightforward installation.
Made in USA
Designed for high output and aggressive tone, this model delivers a powerful, edgy sound with pronounced sustain-perfect for modern rock leads.Compare To:
