Odyssey Icon SH1 HB
The Odyssey Icon SH1 HB is a faithful recreation of the legendary Seymour Duncan SH-1 ’59 PAF-style guitar pickup, delivering warm, creamy tones with a touch of vintage sparkle. Hand-wound in the USA with 6,500 turns of 42?AWG enamel wire around precision-cut Alnico?V magnets, the SH1 HB achieves approximately 8.0?K? impedance—balancing clarity with smooth midrange richness.
Construction & Materials
Each SH1 HB is hand-wound by seasoned artisans in the USA. The Alnico?V magnets provide a strong, musical pull that enhances harmonic content, while tight coil windings ensure consistent output across units. Nickel-plated steel baseplates and covers give durable shielding, reducing noise and sustaining tonal integrity in high-gain environments.
Tonal Character
Much like the original SH-1 ’59, this guitar pickup offers a round, balanced voice. Clean tones ring with bell-like clarity and gentle compression, making chord voicings sparkle without harshness. When driven, the SH1 HB produces a warm breakup reminiscent of vintage tube amps cranked to the sweet spot, perfect for bluesy leads and classic rock rhythms.
Dynamic Response
The Alnico?V magnets and moderate winding count allow for expressive dynamics. Light picking yields delicate articulation, while aggressive attack pushes the coils into a smooth, singing sustain. Volume knob roll-back is exceptionally musical—dial back for softer, jazz-style tones or dig in for overdriven grit.
Versatility & Applications
Ideal in both bridge and neck positions, the SH1 HB excels in jazz, blues, and rock contexts. In the neck, it delivers a sax-like vocal quality; at the bridge, it offers punchy rhythm tones with a vintage edge. It pairs beautifully with vintage-voiced amps but also retains clarity through modern high-gain heads.
Installation & Compatibility
Designed for a standard humbucker cavity, the SH1 HB installs easily into most guitars. Pre-wax potting minimizes microphonics, and long lead wires ensure compatibility with deep cavities. The removable cover lets players fine-tune top-end brightness.
Made in USA
Emulating classic vintage charm, this pickup produces warm, creamy tones with smooth dynamics for a soulful, retro sound.Compare To:
