Odyssey Horizon II HB
The Odyssey Horizon II HB is a high-output ceramic-magnet guitar pickup designed for players who demand razor-sharp attack and uncompromising clarity in high-gain settings. Featuring 6,800 turns of 42?AWG enamel-coated copper wire around a ceramic magnet, the Horizon II measures approximately 8.5?K?—delivering a tight, focused tone that excels at cutting through dense mixes without sounding brittle.
Construction & Materials
Each Horizon II HB is hand-wound in the USA using precision coil tension to ensure consistency. The ceramic magnet provides a powerful, linear magnetic field that accentuates harmonic overtones and tightens low-end response. Machined nickel-plated brass covers and baseplates add durability, hum rejection, and a slightly tamed top end—perfect for balancing the pickup’s aggressive bite.
Tonal Character
Inspired by high-output pickups like the DiMarzio X2N, the Horizon II HB offers searing midrange and pronounced upper harmonics. Clean tones have a crystalline sheen, while overdriven tones break up with a focused, articulate grind. Solo lines cut through with razor-sharp definition, and power-chord rhythms deliver a tight, percussive punch that remains controlled at high volumes.
Dynamic Response
While the Horizon II HB is tailored for gain, it still responds to playing dynamics. Light picking yields a surprisingly clear bell-like shimmer, and harder attack spikes the output for dramatic sustain. The robust ceramic magnet ensures that every nuance of your technique translates directly to your amp, making this pickup well suited for technical riffing, palm-muted chugs, and soaring lead work.
Versatility & Applications
Although optimized for modern metal and hard-rock applications, the Horizon II HB also works well in cleaner genres when paired with the right amp voicing. In bridge position, it delivers authoritative crunch; at the neck, it provides articulate, high-clarity tones that stand out in the mix. It pairs exceptionally with high-gain tube heads, modeling amplifiers, and active preamps.
Installation & Compatibility
The Horizon II HB drops easily into any standard humbucker route without modification. It comes pre-wax potted to reduce microphonics, with long lead wires and mounting screws for straightforward installation.
