Odyssey Icon SH24 HB
The Odyssey Icon SH24 HB is a finely balanced Alnico?V guitar pickup engineered to deliver full-bodied tone with exceptional note clarity and responsiveness. Wound with 7,200 turns of 42?AWG enamel-coated copper wire around precision-cut Alnico?V pole pieces, it measures approximately 9.0?K?—positioning it for moderate output that excels in both clean and overdriven contexts. Drawing inspiration from Seymour Duncan’s SH-24, the SH24 HB brings warmth, articulation, and musical versatility to any instrument.
Construction & Materials
Each Icon SH24 HB is hand-wound in the USA by skilled artisans who maintain strict coil-tension controls to ensure consistent impedance and tonal character across batches. The Alnico?V magnets provide a rich magnetic field that accentuates harmonic complexity, while the enamel wire minimizes eddy-current losses for greater clarity and transient response. Nickel-plated brass covers and baseplates offer robust shielding against electromagnetic interference without overly damping top-end sparkle. Inside, wax potting reduces microphonic feedback for reliable performance at higher gain levels.
Tonal Character
On clean amplifier settings, the SH24 HB produces warm, rounded lows, a smooth midrange bloom, and clear, bell-like highs. Chord voicings resonate with vintage fullness, and single-note lines sing with a natural sustain and expressive dynamic range. When cranked into drive, the pickup transitions smoothly to a creamy overdrive, maintaining note separation and harmonic richness even at higher gain stages. Its balanced output avoids the muddy tones that can plague hotter pickups, making it ideal for players seeking a classic humbucker voice with modern reliability.
Installation & Compatibility
Designed for a direct drop-in into standard humbucker cavities, the Odyssey Icon SH24 HB includes long lead wires and mounting hardware for easy installation. The nickel-plated brass baseplate grounds securely to most guitar assemblies, and the standard four-conductor wiring allows for coil-splitting or phase options. Pre-wax potting ensures the pickup remains free of microphonic squeal, even under high-gain conditions.
